Politics with an Asian American lens
The Yappie is one of ten finalists in the 2022 Gold Futures Challenge, a national grant competition for AAPI nonprofits.
Issue #45
Hi all —
I’m at the Online News Association conference (#ONA22) this week in Los Angeles. It’s been great to meet so catch up with so many other journalists and hear from folks about the challenges and opportunities facing American newsrooms.
But even with the optimism I feel at this conference every year, there’s still so much coverage missing for and about Asian American communities in mainstream newsrooms.
That’s why I’ve been a big fan of The Yappie, since it launched in 2019. The nonpartisan, nonprofit publication covers the rise of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in politics and policy.
Simply: The Yappie team is doing the depth of journalism around political coverage for and about AAPI communities that no one else is. As Asian American communities continue to grow across the United States, I believe this sort of coverage is important to better understand constituents and those who represent us.
That’s why, this week, I urge you to check out The Yappie’s free content and vote for them in the 2022 Gold Futures Challenge — a grant competition for AAPI nonprofits.
